Why halal breakfast is hard to find in Winnipeg
Most Winnipeg breakfast spots use pork bacon, pork sausage, or cook in shared kitchens. For Muslim families, halal-conscious students at the University of Manitoba, and anyone who just wants to know exactly what's on the plate, options are thin.
At Next Stop Cafe, the kitchen has been 100% halal since 2017. Every meat item — beef bacon, lamb, chicken, you name it — is certified halal. No exceptions, no shared grills.
What to order for breakfast
Persian classics
- Halim — slow-cooked wheat and lamb porridge, finished with cinnamon and sugar. The Tehran weekend tradition.
- Adasi — warm lentil stew with onion and lemon, served with fresh barbari bread.
- Nimroo — Persian-style fried eggs with tomato, onion and herbs. Simple, perfect.
- Feta & walnut platter — feta, walnuts, fresh herbs, honey and warm barbari. The classic Iranian breakfast.
Halal Western options
- Halal breakfast sandwich — egg, halal beef bacon and cheese on house bread.
- Omelettes — three-egg, with halal fillings.
When to come
- Weekdays (Mon–Thu): Open 9:30 AM. Quietest from 9:30–11:00 — best time if you want to read, work, or sit at the window with a Persian tea.
- Weekends (Fri–Sun): Open 9:00 AM. Busy from 10:30 onward; reserve a table or come early.
- Breakfast service ends at 2 PM. After that, the full Persian lunch and dinner menu kicks in.
Pair it with Persian tea
Don't skip the Persian tea — loose-leaf black tea brewed samovar-style, served in a small glass with a sugar cube on the side. It's the right way to finish any Persian breakfast.
